Meghalaya Highland Offbeat Roadtrip

4.7· 525 traveller reviews

A 6N/7D SUV convoy roadtrip across Meghalaya’s offbeat highlands — driving through Jaintia, East Khasi, and West Khasi Hills in search of hidden waterfalls, remote valleys, plateau roads, and raw, untouched landscapes.

This 6N/7D Zo Trip is designed as a true highland road expedition across Meghalaya, moving far beyond the regular tourist circuit.

Travelling in a SUV convoy, the journey begins from Guwahati and gradually climbs into the lesser-explored landscapes of Jaintia Hills. In Jowai, discover dramatic twin waterfalls like Phe Phe Falls, forest descents to hidden cascades, and striking turquoise pools tucked away from mainstream routes.

The road then leads into remote East Khasi villages such as Mawkyrwat and Lad Smit, where waterfall systems like Pdeng Falls and Synkai Falls sit deep within untouched terrain. Expect moderate treks, gorge explorations, and stretches of winding highland roads that feel raw and expansive.

In Sohra, explore dramatic cliffs, powerful monsoon-fed waterfalls, and sweeping plateau views before continuing west toward Mawphlang, Markham Valley, and Nongstoin — one of Meghalaya’s most scenic and underexplored regions. Vast grasslands, open rural roads, and changing highland landscapes define this stretch of the drive. A guided descent to Weina Falls in West Khasi Hills adds a final dramatic highlight before returning toward Shillong and Umiam Lake for a scenic close to the expedition.

This is not a rushed sightseeing trip. It’s a limited-group Zo Roadtrip built around convoy drives, curated stays, moderate treks, and immersive exploration — with transportation, handpicked accommodations, and meals included.

I recently had the pleasure of going on a trip with ZO Trips and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment I booked the trip, everything was taken care of seamlessly. Special shoutout to our guide, Steve, who was absolutely fantastic! The journey can’t be the way it was without Steve .His knowledge, enthusiasm, and attention to detail made our journey so much more enjoyable that can’t be expressed in words. Never had a guide like him who went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. And to our driver, Apubhai, a huge thank you! Not only did he get us safely to our destinations, but he also made the journey a blast with his killer humour and fun vibes! 🤣 Little jokes, big laughs, and safe rides – what more could you ask for?The trip was perfectly planned, and the accommodations were great. The scenic spots we visited were breathtaking. Thank you, ZO Trips, for an amazing experience! Can't wait to travel with you again. Steve and Appu , you've made a loyal customer for life! 🌟"

Had an amazing trip! Our trip captain, Devesh, was fantastic and kept everything so organized. The itinerary was perfectly designed and we even had time to add extra stops! Just a small note for improvement: the food at Sissu could use a little upgrade.

This was an unforgettable trip which was very well organised. Amazing memories with amazing people. Yuvraj as a co-ordinator was the best person I have met this year. There was never a moment during the trip where I had to think about what to do. He was ready with everything. A great person with amazing conversation skills. Sweet and amazing human being. In future if there is a trip which has him as our co-ordinator I am ready to join without any thought for the location. He ensured that everyone had a great time and made everyone feel very comfortable.
